The System is heard on WorldSpace's AsiaStar satellite channel 202. The channel is broadcast only on the AsiaStar satellite, covering the southern parts of the Asian continent and portions of the Middle East. The format on WorldSpace is a variety of dance music from mainstream to underground to downtempo. A number of weekly shows produced by global DJs and producers are offered.
The System was heard in the United States and Canada as one of the then-ten dance/electronic music satellite channels operated by Sirius XM Radio, which in turn operated as one of XM Satellite Radio's then-five dance/electronic formatted offerings, broadcasting on XM channel 82, through a legacy business relationship between 1worldspace and XM. The format of The System on XM focused on trance, breaks, electronica, and progressive dance music. WorldSpace was referenced in sounders as the producer of the channel's content.
The System on XM featured WorldSpace-hosted shows such as The Mutant Dance Party and Subterranean, plus in-house-produced dance music news updates. It also offered the XM-exclusive Afterglow Sessions and Genetic Blueprint. A large number of weekly shows produced by global DJs and producers were offered.
On WorldSpace, The System presents:
Tiësto, Deadmau5, Sander van Doorn, Alex Gold, Underworld, Basshunter, The Chemical Brothers, The Crystal Method, Überzone, Sasha, The Orb, Timo Maas, Armin van Buuren, Agnelli & Nelson, Orbital, Ferry Corsten, Solarstone, Above & Beyond, Paul Oakenfold, Paul van Dyk, BT
On XM, The System carried many radio shows from leading DJs worldwide, including:
Tiësto, Underworld, The Chemical Brothers, The Crystal Method, Sander van Doorn, Überzone, Sasha, The Orb, Timo Maas, Armin van Buuren, Agnelli & Nelson, Orbital, Ferry Corsten, Solarstone, Above & Beyond, Paul Oakenfold, Paul van Dyk, BT
On 2008-11-12, To the outrage of many, The System was removed from the XM satellite service due to Sirius XM's channel merge. However, it continued to be available on XM Online and DirecTV, although no new programming (music and syndicated programs) was being produced.
On 2009-02-06, The System was completely discontinued on XM and was removed from DirecTV and XM Online.
1worldspace has filed for bankruptcy[1] and the likelihood of the channel returning to radio or continuing long term at all is slim. Alan Freed has stated that whether or not Sirius XM returns The System to satellite delivery neither he or Zoltar would be involved because they are no longer associated with WorldSpace.
